Since the beginning of my major, I was looking forward to studying in Japan. Like many others, I shared the fate of not being able to come and live in Japan. Despite this unlucky turn of events I decided not to give up my chance to study online at the fantastic Akita International University, a wonderful and enriching experience.

Studying at the AIU means doing what you choose with passion. I chose the courses that interested me and always got what I was searching for and more. Everywhere I felt welcomed and supported and the time started to pass by like a Shinkansen at full speed.

Especially the beginning was an exciting time. To tell the truth, at first I felt overwhelmed. Everything was new and unpredictable and I was exhilarated but also a little frightened of the mass of new-found information. But there is nothing to be afraid of. Even though I made a few mistakes or misunderstood something, everybody I met was very nice and understanding and so I slowly got used to an exciting new study environment.

The choices of programs, courses and events were nearly endless and so many things sounded fascinating and attractive. If one thing in AIU will never happen, then it’s the students getting bored. Even as an online exchange student there are so many great things to do that I knew there would never be enough time to try them all.

I can already say that I have learned so much at the AIU in such a short amount of time and I am very happy that I got the chance to meet so many wonderful people. I am thankful and looking forward to my study abroad, the best that I could wish for in these unpredictable times.
